Meet Adi Jo Nelson. On August 16th, 2013, against all odds, she came into our lives kicking and screaming. Before she was born, we were told by several doctors that Adi had a congenital heart defect called Truncus Arterious and that the type she had was extremely rare. Doctors told us that she wouldn't make it to open heart surgery. let alone to birth. She had different plans. Adi underwent open heart surgery 4-days after she was born and made it through with flying colors. We were overjoyed and we thought that we had beaten the odds.
We had many challenges after open-heart surgery and Adi ended up on ECMO for a couple weeks. This lead to more issues and on September 7th, 2013, we said goodbye to our angel.
During our hospital stay, the countless acts of kindness floored us. The amount of people who stood behind us, amazed us and we didn't know how we could ever repay anyone for what they had done for us. That's how we came up with Hearts for Adi. Paying it forward, one family at a time.
Adi touched lives all over the world and continues to do so everyday. Our mission is to bring a smile to someones face, even when they feel like their world is falling apart. Help them buy a warm meal, pay for gas to travel back and forth to see their loved one, provide toiletries to someone whose life has been uprooted, books for children to read to pass the time. The list is endless. We just want to be there.
Each year, we hold our annual 5K Run and Memory walk to raise funds for the families we help. Without your support, we couldn't do what we do and we can't THANK YOU enough.
